A juvenile bicycle with sidecar was a top range product in the 1920s. But despite its higher price it was a popular item in Britain because many fathers used motorcycles for their daily transport, often fitting a sidecar onto the machine at weekends to take the family to the seaside.

This example is the type of toy sold at Harrods, and is one of the models that put Lines Bros on the map. Its Royal Mail sidecar box is a superb idea, as the lucky owner could write letters to his family and friends and then cycle round to deliver them.

It was previously owned by a long-time collector who displayed it in his private museum. After he passed away, I started advertising it for his daughter, but while processing its photos I fell in love with it so I’ve now bought it myself. I’ll do a proper photoshoot after I pick it up.
