This very rare first pattern Michaux velocipede was sold in a Sotheby’s auction in June, 1987 as Lot 375. It had been found in a storage in Marseilles by the grandson of Amie and Rene Olivier (who took over the Michaux company in April, 1869). Historian Nick Clayton believed it to have been one of the machines supplied to the ‘Michaux Manege’ indoor riding school. It was sympathetically restored by the purchaser, retaining its original paint, and was first put back on the road in 2003 when it was ridden by Andrew Heaps’ ten-year-old son Louis in the National Rally at Netley, Hampshire. This is the first time it has been offered for sale. It’s in excellent all round condition and is ready to ride.
