When I visited the Royal Signals Museum at Blandford Camp in Dorset with this bicycle, the staff there were fascinated by it because the 2nd photograph was on display at the entrance and they didn’t know it was a BSA. My interest in the 2nd Boer War (1899-1902) arose because it was the first war where bicycles were officially approved by a government for military use, and a primary role of cyclists was in signals (reconnaissance and communications) for the Royal Engineers. The ability to rapidly establish secure, long-distance communication lines gave the British Army a significant advantage. As a result, in 1901, the British War Office issued a contract for BSA to supply bicycles for military use.
This example is in lovely unrestored original condition. As it retains its original tyres it is ideal for a historic military display, but the tyres would need to be replaced to make it ready to ride.
